Autre. by Anoya Autre. by Anoya
I know its different from what I normally do when it comes to contrast and lighting. I was hesitant to submit this, doubting a lot, 'cause of it being different. I decided to submit it anyway and call it 'Autre.' what means 'Other.' in French, according to Babelfish anyway.

Why the French name? 'cause the English and Dutch names start to bore me a bit. If I don't like the title in English, Dutch nor French, I try another language. I like Dictionary.com and Babelfish.

I know it's not a 100% in focus, that's my style. I like playing with DOF. It gives a soft effect in this particular picture, and I like it. It glows. If you look at my other pictures, there's nothing a 100% focussed. But I make sure there's at least one thing in focus, otherwise I wouldn't submit it. Please stop telling me my pictures aren't focussed. They are.
/end rant

Worked on the histogram and curves and converted to black and white.

It's a Forget Me Not, by the way. Taken with a Canon 400d and Tokina 100mm f/2.8

Love the softness and (lack of?) contrast. Selective focus is great too, though I'd probably have chosen a different point to focus on myself but that's a matter of personal preferences...

Aww, thanks!

Yeah, I've heard more often that people would've chosen a different point of focus or different DOF. I like it though :giggle:

Thanks much!

Well, I guess it's good that everyone would do it differently, otherwise it would be boring with lots of pics looking the same ;)

Personally, I think that the select focus is a large part of what makes this not-just-another-macro-flower-shot. The focus lends the picture a sense of abstractness and mystery while, like you said, making the flowers glow. It’s almost as if the forget-me-not’s were lit from within, and that they are the source of light in the image. The conversion to black and white really makes the innermost part of the flowers stick out and `pop`, as if the viewer could reach out and touch them.

I think this is a wonderful divination for your usual style, and the title suits the photo perfectly. Well done, and congrats on a risk well taken!

It's beautiful! :) I really love the contrast and the focus! This inspires me to take some macros too. Maybe someday on this week...hmm next week.. I'm just so busy, blah. :/

And about the title, I also sometimes get bored with english titles, then I use finnish titles. Maybe I start to use french etc. titles too. I really love the title you gave for this one!

I think a picture isn't a good picture when there's nothing in focus. There needs to be at least one focus point, I think.

Thank you!

This is very nice - the neutral background makes it look like it's in a little universe of its own! :)
