Lucky. by Anoya Lucky. by Anoya
A better picture of my dog. Wanted to do a portrait of him for my dad.

His name was Pucky, but when we adopted him from the shelter where he just got in, we called him Lucky, since he was being heavily abused by his previous owner. He was scared of everything, he didn't know what cars were, he was afraid of people, fast movements and he barely wanted to be touched by his back or tail. He's still pretty scared of sticks and umbrella's, but he's turning around still. He learned commands, walking on a leash (he didn't know what was happening when he first had to walk on a leash). In spite of all that happened to him, he jumped up and down when we first met. My dad brought him home, I got home from work and I didn't know he was there, behind the door. The second I opened the door, he was jumping at me, wagging his tail like a maniac. That was four years ago, and he's turning seven this year.

Another shot taken with the Lensbaby 2.0, Canon 400D, no macro lenses, nor tripod.

I'm glad you love it! :aww: I can see why so many people have to think of Border collies when they see him, but he isn't a Border himself though. He's a Drentse Patrijs mixed with a Briard. Still looks very similar!

He is gorgeous! Look at this trustful lovely eyes!! Wonderful shot!
Never ever will I understand how people are able to hurt/abuse/mistreat such loyal creatures. My dog is my best friend in this whole entire world and it always breaks my heart when I read stories like this. Though I'm glad he was literally "Lucky" to meet people that heal his wounded soul.
How did it happen that he got away from his previous owner?

He's definitely very trustful and gorgeous! Thank you :aww:

The previous owner wanted to get rid of him because 'he couldn't listen' and he was getting in the way. Our previous puppy just died because of a liver condition we didn't know about. He was only 15 weeks when he died. We had all the stuff, toys, etc. and we didn't want to throw it away. A couple days later my dad said he was going to take a look at a dog that he heard about when he called the shelter. He was only supposed to look but when I got home from my internship, there was this big smelly bouncy dog jumping at me! I didn't know what hit me (literally), but he was very happy to see me! It took me a while to get used to the idea, because well.. I just lost my puppy and I was devastated and scared to loose this one as well. My dad told me that the dog slept with the cows and the barn. That explained why he smelled and was more brown and dirty than white, while my dad had already put him in the shower haha. When my dad went to look at the dog at the farm, the man told him he didn't listen, wasn't obedient and that he was mean to the kids. We have incredibly strong ideas that they've hurt Lucky by pulling him at the tail and slapping him. He loved it when you'd pet him on the head or on his upper body, but oh dear, not towards his back and definitely not his tail! He'd run and hide far, far away for a while. I wanted to play with him and threw a ball, he didn't know what happened but he ducked and howled. He was scared of the vacuum cleaner rod, even without the vacuum cleaner, so we suspect he was hit with that as well. He never walked on a leash, so he was like a wild bull when we tried that for the first time. He was scared of everything. Literally everything. Plants, cars, cyclists, other dogs, cats, stones, strange people talking to him, traffic signs, random noises. It took us a while to get him adjusted. He didn't pee the first 3 days, even though we walked him a lot. A lot. And after 3 days he almost peed on the computer haha, my dad took him out and it was the longest pee ever! :giggle: He was at home. He peed, he started to realize he could trust us and he was starting to get more white again.

Now, years later, it's the most obedient dog we ever had (we've had 5 dogs before Lucky), the smartest dog we ever had (for example, when he walks around a couple of trees, he'll follow his leash back without getting stuck), he does tricks and just loves being with you. He goes on vacation with my parents and he loves cuddles, he loves to play and of course he loves snacks.
We're so happy we have him!

I love him to bits. I'm currently reading the books from Cesar Millan, and it's good to read that dogs really live in the 'here and now' and that he basically doesn't 'think' about the past. Here and now he seems to be a happy dog, so yeah, he is (and we are) definitely lucky that we've found him :aww:

Thanks so much!
